Our story

Founded in 2015, Goodio is a food pioneer with a big heart. The story started with a question: “What if there was a food brand you could trust?” says Jukka Peltola, Founder of Goodio. Learn more about our chocolate.

Inspired by Finland

Goodio was created on the principles of sustainability, well-being, and transparency.  It's a vision to bring Nordic-inspired flavors to a chocolate brand for the global consumer.
We prize organic, nutritious ingredients, and fuse them with unique flavors, such as wild blueberry and sea buckthorn to give you a delicious one-of-a-kind treat. All our bars are made with raw cacao, which is high in antioxidants and classified as a superfood.

“Starting with pure cacao beans and mixing in primarily organic and wild ingredients has allowed us to create an exciting, delicious raw chocolate handmade Helsinki, Finland.” -Jukka Peltola. Today, Goodio has expanded into three continents and 16 countries. We are currently most active in Finland, Norway, Sweden, UK, USA, Germany and Japan.

Roots in innovation

Goodio’s roots lay in innovation. Chief Creative Officer and founder of Goodio, Jukka Peltola, developed games at Rovio, the company responsible for Angry Birds. After a creative career in technology and entertainment, Jukka came to food through a personal journey for better health.

Looking for alternatives to the usual sugar and salt-ridden snacks, Jukka discovered cacao — a superfood that’s often overlooked and associated only with unhealthy chocolate bars. “It’s a food of god, though,” Jukka likes to say. By adding raw cacao to his diet and dropping traditional dairy products, Jukka adopted a new diet and lifestyle.

The results were evident: feeling more energetic, lighter, and rejuvenated, Jukka was convinced.  He then set out to share this newfound knowledge with his colleagues, friends, and family. While raw cacao and healthful treats were the focus, the team also wanted to build a company that stood for more than profit.

Purpose over profit

“There has to be greater transparency in where our food comes from, how it’s sourced, and how it’s treated,” Jukka says. That’s why Goodio spells out the entire process: cacao is sourced from South American and African farms. Goodio uses raw cacao — completely natural.  In fact, it’s stone ground in Helsinki for three days.  By keeping it raw, it retains its nutrients.
